We are aware of the growing post-consumer waste and with our packaging philosophy we are on a mission to reduce it. In our opinion most customers pay too much attention to the packaging, wrapping and additional inserts that come with the product. It has grown into a belief that presence of high quality packaging indicates quality of the product and maturity of the company. Good Bloke disagrees with that.
Before you turn away thinking that we are just a bunch of boring people, we do admit that there are products that should have fancy packaging. Some of them are meant to create ‘whoa’ moments and others come with use and installation instructions. Yet we don’t believe that those are the daily use personal care products we buy in grocery stores. Let’s continue …
We also understand that consumers need to know the product’s description, ingredients and instructions on how to use it. More to it, there are government regulations that specify what is necessary to be posted on a label. Because of that we re-evaluated our packaging philosophy and decided to go digital to the most possible extend. Our goal is to put all products’ information on Good Bloke website and made it quickly available to you. We use QR codes to link printed materials with always up-to-date product descriptions and articles. (There are tons of paper and plastic waste generated when a company needs to update a new product packaging design.)
As now we agreed that it’s unnecessary for a bar of soap to come with a golden wrap and high quality print, it’s important to note that it comes with added cost. All excessive wrapping and inserts are adding to the cost and contribute to the total weight of the shipping package. As a result, you pay for its delivery and for recycling.
The bottom line is the price.
With all this in mind … We want you to spend your dollars on the essential part of the high quality product, not its wrapping. Ideally, we aim to make products that don’t leave anything to recycle or throw away after its use. Most of what we manufacture is already post-use waste free. To enhance it, we started to work with low-waste groceries that primarily focus on selling package free or bulk products. Our collaboration with those stores allows us to deliver 100% package free products to all of you without any post-consumer waste guilt. More on about it in our future articles.
